If there is one thing that defines Jorge, it is his perseverance -although some call it stubbornness. Who cares, the important thing is that it works for him.
Jorge was born in Madrid in 1999 and climbed for the first time at the age of 13 with his older brother, who took him out one day on the rock. “It wasn’t bad,” recalls Jorge, “but I didn’t think it was clear that I was going to climb for more days, and look at me now: I can’t imagine my life any other way”.
Jorge is, along with Pedro Bergua – one of his coaches – the most methodical person on the team. He needs to have everything under control: he calculates the exact time he spends training and how much time he spends resting; he takes care of his diet and his skin; he checks the humidity to get a good feel…. This is his way of understanding climbing, although when he starts climbing, in addition to all these tactics, he puts a lot of heart into it. Sometimes too much, maybe that’s why he channels his energy in the form of screams, as a strategy to be able to get the necessary rage to climb the most difficult routes in the world.
“When he goes climbing, in addition to all these tactics, he puts a lot of heart.
He lives in a van parked wherever his projects of the moment are, many of them in Catalonia, although every year he travels the world with the goal of crossing out the most coveted climbing routes in each country. Among his hardest chain-ups are Mejorando Sanfaina and Bibliographie, both 9b+. He aims to chain 9c and establish himself among the best rock climbers in the world.
Those who know him know that Jorge is much more comfortable being cold in a climbing area than sitting on a radio set or surrounded by TV cameras doing an interview. But he also knows that this is very good for his career and for the visibility of climbing in our country, so he keeps working on it every day.
He has a furry companion named Joy (joy) who accompanies him on his adventures and who, according to Jorge, is an excellent co-pilot.
